Glorious weather has welcomed in the new year at Redleaf. We have been enjoying the swimming hole and barbequing by the creek. Pepper did indeed give birth to nine lovely babies six days after Ginger, so we have 19 piglets suckling and grazing about the place. The sows cant stand still for long without beingContinue reading “Summer!”

Saddleback piglets x 10
Our Saddleback sow Ginger (who has some Duroc thrown in her heritage somewhere – hence the ginger…) had her second litter of piglets yesterday morning. Ten lovely healthy little piggies. Fat lambs are ready
It was a glorious highlands day today and we marked our first 9 young dorper lambs, and weaned some of the larger ones. They are big strong lambs, ready to eat. Morning Song
One of my favourite morning songs is that of the Grey Shrike Thrush – such a clear crisp voice – they always sound so happy. I was thrilled to discover that they are nesting in an old copper pot on the electrical box!
Lush Spring
We have grass! Thanks to recent rains and some glorious days everything is growing lush and green… including the weeds. I spent the afternoon digging out thistles with my little helper Chilli. It looked like only a few in the paddock but once we got going we soon filled the trailer – got most ofContinue reading “Lush Spring”

Pepper and Ginger have been running with Sam-the-Ham and are hopefully on the way to producing the next litter of piglets, due around mid November. Poppy is growing well and should be ready to meetContinue reading “Redleaf Farm”
